Breast Cancer Treatment > What Is MammoSite?
What is MammoSite®

First Mammosite PatientThe Texas Cancer Clinic has performed more MammoSite® procedures than any other clinic in the country.  The first MammoSite® patient was treated here five years ago.  She continues to be cancer-free.

MammoSite® is a tumor site-specific internal radiation therapy system for breast cancer. It is a device that allows radiation to be delivered from inside the space left after a cancerous tumor is removed. The device is comprised of a balloon catheter that internally administers the prescribed dose of radiation to targeted breast tissue in a five-day course of therapy. By internally delivering radiation directly to the tissue surrounding the original tumor, the MammoSite® RTS minimizes exposure to the remainder of the breast, skin, ribs, lungs and heart.
