Jui-Lien Chou, M.D.

Jui-Lien Chou, M.D. Jui-Lien “Lillian” Chou, M.D., was born in Tainan Hsien, Taiwan. She received her medical degree at the National Taiwan University in 1980 and studied three years of ophthalmology there. Dr. Chou and her husband, Dr. Ming-Tao “Peter” Ho, moved their young family to Texas in 1983, where she trained in radiation oncology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. While there, Dr. Chou achieved the 99th percentile on her national board examination.

In 1987, Dr. Chou received additional training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and subsequently became a faculty member of the medical school in 1988. While in Houston, she worked as an assistant professor and staff radiation oncologist at Methodist and St. Luke Hospital System.

The family moved to Lubbock in 1989, and has lived there ever since. In the course of her career, Dr. Chou has served as medical director for radiation oncology at University Medical Center’s Southwest Cancer Center, as well as Covenant Health System’s Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center. In her quest for excellence in the healthcare field, Dr. Chou realized a long-held dream in the summer of 2001, when she opened a radiation oncology facility at Lubbock Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology of the South Plains, P.A. (ROOSP), caring for the needs of cancer patients in the west Texas/eastern New Mexico region. Shortly thereafter, she founded Wellness Lubbock, dedicated to lifestyle changes and disease prevention/early detection, with an emphasis on women’s health. Lubbock Imaging Center currently operates the first, and only, combination PET/CT providing our patients a more precise treatment. This dedication to excellence has been recognized recently by Advance for Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals, which has voted ROOSP “Imaging Facility of the Year” for 2005.

Dr. Chou’s desire for improving health in this region extends to other pursuits, such as the founding of TreeGrace Farms, urban organic agriculture in west Lubbock, whose mission includes education on the benefits of sustainability. This has resulted in a partnership with the Lubbock Independent School District, including field trips to the farm and agricultural projects on the grounds of several elementary schools in the district. Her work in urban organic agriculture education has gained regional and national attention. In October 2005, an article in Progressive Farmer magazine, entitled “Farm for the Kids,” showcased these efforts.

Dr. Chou’s professional interests include healthy living and preventive medicine, in addition to her specialty of radiation oncology. Additionally, she is a “true believer” when it comes to the Giant Side of Texas, owning medical, commercial, and residential properties in Lubbock. Always looking toward the future of the medical community in the Hub City, Dr. Chou is spearheading the development of Lubbock Medical Center, a new medical commercial development along North Loop 289 and Quaker Avenue.

On a personal note, Drs. Chou and Ho recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary with their three children. Dr. Chou enjoys the challenge of developing plans and projects in several fields, is active in her church, and finds gardening to be a relaxing hobby. She is never shy about telling people who are not lucky enough to live in Lubbock that she lives in the best city in the world.
