Prostate Permanent Seed Implants
This procedure is performed in the operating room and takes less than 30 minutes. Under local anesthesia, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the rectum to image the prostate on a television monitor. Anywhere between 60 and 120 seeds are inserted into the prostate through 20 to 30 needles. The needles are inserted through the perineal skin between the scrotum and the rectum, and with the transrectal ultrasound device, are guided with pin-point accuracy directly to their intended location.

Possible Side Effects
There is little discomfort after the implant, although a patient may experience mild soreness between his legs for one or two days. Some slight bleeding or burning beneath the scrotum, or blood in the urine may occur in the first few days and is considered normal.
